Rita Marcotulli, the lady of Italian jazz music, has been the protagonist of many interesting performances at the latest edition of Umbria Jazz. People had the opportunity to listen to the various forms of multiform and constantly creative talent. In her music, also as a composer, there are Mediterranean solid roots and influences of Brazilian, African and Indian music that are strictly blended with the American jazz tradition.
Among her recent projects: Caraviaggianti, a work which moves freely across the board to pay tribute to the genius of Caravaggio; her collaboration with Maria Pia De Vito on Joni Mitchell’s songs; the concerts of Gino Paoli and Massimo Ranieri; the trio of Giovanni Tommaso dedicated to Gershwin; BAM with the Alborada String Quartet and Marco Bardoscia; her participation in the charity festival which took place in Assisi after the earthquake that struck Norcia. More recently, he performed in duo with Dado Moroni and in trio with Paolo Fresu and Jaques Morelenbaum.
The Roman pianist performed in China for Umbria Jazz in honor of President Mattarella during his state visit in February 2017.
She is an authentic prima donna of Italian music who has been on stage for almost 50 years with unaltered success.
