Pieranunzi – Mirabassi – Bulgarelli “Racconti Mediterranei”

Egea Records 30th Anniversary
Egea Records 30th Anniversary

“Racconti Mediterranei” is the title of an album released 24 years ago for Egea, an important Italian label that turns 30 this year. The album features Enrico Pieranunzi on piano, Gabriele Mirabassi on clarinet and Marc Johnson on double bass. The title faithfully reflects a repertoire and sound research that draws from the Mediterranean roots of popular and cultured music. That record – and that project – represented and still represent a trend that contributed to creating an original identity of Italian jazz music that is free from usual American models.

“Racconti Mediterranei” remains alive over time and returns with Luca Bulgarelli to replace Johnson.

Pieranunzi and Mirabassi are two major protagonists of the Italian jazz scene: they combine mastery of the instrument and the technique with a creativity capable of awakening emotions. These skills are well documented in Egea’s record production. Bulgarelli, a long-time collaborator of Pieranunzi, Sergio Cammariere and Roberto Gatto, is a highly demanded musician, not only on the jazz scene. He has performed, among others, with Mimmo Locasciulli, Francesco De Gregori, Goran Kuzminac, Ivano Fossati, Beppe Servillo, and Paola Turci.
