Italian Army Big Band
in collaboration with Saint Louis College of Music – Rome

The preview of Umbria Jazz: the Big Band of the Italian Army will perform on July 11 on the stage of Piazza IV Novembre (in collaboration with Saint Louis College of Music of Rome).

The Big Band was formed thanks to the shared passion of some of the Army’s members for jazz music and mainly thanks to the will to offer the excellent “swing” orchestrations of the 30s and 40s. Their repertoire includes jazz classics of those years, songs from the authors who made the history of this genre (D. Ellington, G. Miller, G. Gershwin), and modern transcriptions revisited in a swing key, thus retracing all the historical and musical context of that era.

The Big Band has performed on various military and civil occasions in Rome and has been invited to several music events. It has collaborated with internationally renowned artists such as Mario Biondi, Fabrizio Bosso and Maestro Pino Iodice.

Founded in 1976, Saint Louis College of Music of Rome is among Europe’s most renowned music education establishments, attracting over 1800 students annually from around the world. The school has 120 nationally and internationally renowned teachers, and it was headed since 1998 by Maestro Stefano Mastruzzi. Saint Louis College of Music is the first private institution of Higher Education in Art and Music recognized by the Italian Ministry of University and Research to award first and second level academic degrees (with the same value as Conservatory Diplomas, thus equivalent to bachelor’s and master’s degrees) in Jazz, Popular Music, Electronic Music, Sound Technician, Composition and Applied Music, Classical Music.
