Simona Farone

Simona Faraone is historically one of the first women to have undertaken the disc-jockey career in Italy and Europe. Refined digger of cutting-edge sounds, she started a long and respected militancy in the Italian underground scene in 1987, with a background deeply rooted in the Afro-American music and an eclectic, original style.

She belongs to that generation of Roman DJs who, in the mid -80s after having grown up listening to funk and disco, got influenced by the US hip-hop giving birth to a significant correspondence of that movement in the city of Rome: it was the Italian Zulu Nation era of DMC an d scratch and cutting contests. Adventures during the 90s’ “Golden Age” include relevant radio experiences, like the involvement in Radio Centro Suono (official broadcast of the house and techno scene in Rome), and in Radio Italia Network (musical score of the Italian clubbing); but especially her nationwide exposure as a DJ with the residency at Tenax club in Florence and Musikò (Ex Movida) in Jesolo, as well as her regular presence all around the best clubs and events of that unforgettable decade.

She is further well-known for her strong effort and extraordinary determination in driving forward the values of the underground, showing a constant presence and support to the independent realities. Simona brought this spirit when decided to join Roots Underground Records as Executive Producer, in partnership with the label founder Marco Celeri, contributing to the launch of the vinyl catalogue.

As a deep supporter of music experimentation and passionate about the Sun Ra’s visionary, spiritual, otherworldly, cosmogonic and symbolic approach, Simona would like to infuse those concepts, filtered by a personal vision, into her new project of “Phonographic Editions From Tomorrow’s World” started in 2016.
