Cinema Italia is a tribute to the great Italian cinema that contributed to promote the culture and the society of our country throughout the world, and that established a tradition of excellence of Italy over time. The musicians of this project are excellent too: Rosario Giuliani on sax, Luciano Biondini on accordion, Enzo Pietropaoli on double bass and Marco Valeri on drums.

It’s been a short time since Ennio Morricone’s death, and Cinema Italia could not fail to dedicate its concerts to the Academy Award winner. In the music programme, Morricone’s themes, which are part of the film lovers’ collective memory, have a privileged place.

As great jazzmen, their point of view is original, it remains loyal to the melody of these unforgettable themes and presents them with a new strength and life. The quartet  proves how immortal this music is, even when separated from the images, and it always surprises the listener with the modernity of the new reinterpretations.

Cinema Italia is also the title of an album released a few years ago for Via Veneto Jazz, with the same line-up (the drummer was Michele Rabbia). The quartet was one of the guests of a recent edition of Umbria Jazz Winter.

The project and the band that created it are a tangible evidence of the current high-quality jazz made in Italy and its international standing. In this case, the repertoire is a bonus.
