Applications for the Berklee at Umbria Jazz Clinics (from July 5 to 17 in Perugia) are now open.
After the forced cancellation of the past two editions, the summer classes of Berklee College of Music at Umbria Jazz will be held in 2022. It is an important anniversary: it is the 35th year that Berklee College has moved to Perugia to offer its students the opportunity to learn through a teaching method that always proved its worth in the past.
On Saturday 9 July, a master-class with Mark Lettieri, guitarist and composer, long-time member of Snarky Puppy, is scheduled.
Since its founding in 1945, many renowned artists attended the Berklee College, such as Diana Krall, John Scofield, Bill Frisell, Branford Marsalis, Esperanza Spalding, Steve Vai, Gary Burton, Chaka Khan, Tony Bennett, Joe Zawinul, Joe Lovano, Pat Metheny. Overall, alumni of the College won more than 250 Grammy Awards during their careers.
The classes are an integral part of Umbria Jazz, its identity, and its qualitative offer. They are, furthermore, a cultural and economic richness for Perugia, thanks to the significant turnover they create. They represent a heritage that has to be defended for its uniqueness. This could be an essential asset for the future of the Festival and the city.
