Marcus Miller

Bassist, multi-instrumentalist, producer, and composer Marcus Miller  is one of the most influential figures in contemporary music, transcending even the boundaries of Black Music genres (R&B, fusion, soul, funky, jazz). His brilliant work as a bassist who invented and/or developed innovative techniques – a source of inspiration for countless musicians – is enough to secure him a place in the last decades’ music history.

Bass Player Magazine includes him on its list of ten greatest bass players of his generation.

Miller is much more than that. Two Grammy Awards and about twenty Grammy nominations, the last of which is for “Laid Black”, his most recent album. He is a multi-talented artist who created intriguing projects for originality and quality. Besides his works as a bandleader, Miller worked with successful musicians such as Chaka Khan, Herbie Hancock, Luther Vandross, Aretha Franklin, George Benson, Elton John, Bryan Ferry, and Miles Davis, for whom he produced and played in some of his most famous albums, especially “Tutu”. Miller also played in the supergroup Legends, featuring Eric Clapton, Dave Sanborn, Joe Sample and Steve Gadd. Their world tour took them to Umbria Jazz: their performance at Villa Fidelia in Spello stands out as one of the festival’s most unforgettable concerts.

Miller is a musician who cares about civil rights and the most vulnerable people. Miller was appointed a UNESCO Artist for Peace in 2013.
