Thornetta Davis hails from Detroit, the Motor City, where she is the undisputed Queen of the Blues and has won several Detroit Music Awards in the blues and rhythm ‘n’ blues categories.
Detroit is one of the American capitals of blues and R&B. Its theaters and clubs hosted the greatest interpreters of this music, including Ma Rainey and Bessie Smith; John Lee Hooker settled there in the 40s; Detroit is the birthplace of Motown Records and the soul genre, which was launched by that label.
Even for her undisputed charisma, which is exalted in live performances, Davis is considered the heir to this legacy.
