The exploration of Italian song is another area that UJW has decided to focus on for this specific winter jazz festival. Hence the appearance of singer-songwriter Sergio Cammariere, a pianist who developed in a jazz environment; and the show “Uomini in frac” clearly dedicated to the memory of the late singer-songwriter Domenico Modugno, featuring refined pop artists such as Peppe Servillo and Giovanni Lindo Ferretti, and highly-adaptable jazz musicians like Danilo Rea, a pianist who has often taken his inspiration from famous Italian songs, the Italo-Argentinian saxophonist Javier Girotto, and the acrobatic trombone player Gianluca Petrella.
The strictly jazz side of the Festival, on the other hand, starred two very different trumpet players who are often present at Umbria Jazz: Lew Soloff and Roy Hargrove, both resident artists here, in that they played every day at different venues, each fronting his own band.
